Detoxaholic is back with the #YYT (Yummy Yeah Tuesday) celebration! This week nominees are two new school hip-hop artists that are sending major waves with their unique brand of urban consciousness.
The first YYT nominee is the Harlem-born fire spitter Dave East. He was raised between Harlem and Queens, New York and was a successful basketball player. However, his unfortunate run-ins with the law ended his athletic career and caused him to fully flex his creative muscles as a lyricist. Dave began releasing music back in 2011, and gained much appeal from his highly acclaimed mixtape Black Rose released in 2014. Currently, Dave is signed to hip-hop vet Nas’s Mass Appeal Records, and his newly released mixtape entitled Hate Me Now was released earlier this month. He has all the girls going crazy over his ruggedly handsome, northeast swag and tall b-ball player physique that gives us 80’s babies a reminiscent Method Man-like crush. I have his new mixtape in heavy rotation. It has a tri-state hip hop sound, but with his own modern interpretation. The new mixtape features artists such as Mack Wilds, Pusha T, Nas, Jadakiss, and more. To follow Dave East’s movement, follow him via Instagram and Twitter.
The next nominee is Detroit’s own Angel Haze. This new school female MC proudly rocks a tomboyish, androgynous style that has girls and boys swooning over her petite, cocoa brown physique and slick lyrics. She’s been releasing free music since 2009, but received much acclaim from her 2012 mixtape release entitled Reservation. Angel’s newly released project, Back to the Woods, is sonically awesome and beautifully self-reflective. It has the official #detoxstamp of approval and I’m truly in love and inspired by each track. It is so wonderful to see her creative and spiritual growth as a young woman and artist and looking forward of what’s yet to come from this eclectic beauty.
